Attention: Your online course uses the Blackboard Learning System. All students have a username and password created automatically by the University.
It is critical that you log into your course before the first day of the course. Also, be sure to log into your course at least five times a week during the Summer or Winter sessions to look for recent announcements or assignments posted.
Logging into Blackboard for the first time is a 5-step process. Please adhere to the steps below, and do not skip any. After you complete these initial steps, you can simply access your class by logging in from the Blackboard login page.
If you had a Blackboard account from the previous semester (at Ship), your login information and email address remain unchanged.
The URL of the "splash page" is http://blackboard.ship.edu (clicking this link will pop open a new window). Next, click on one of the two "Click Here" buttons to go to the login page. Note: You will not be able to log in prior to ten days before the first day of class.
Make sure you bookmark (or add to your Favorites) this page to ensure quick access to your course(s) throughout the semester.
Username: <enter your full Ship
email address> --all lowercase letters
Password: <first four letters of your last name><your birthdate YYYYMMDD>
For example, Jane P. Smith, born April 13, 1987, email account js1234@ship.edu, would log in as:
Username: js1234@ship.edu
Password: smit19870413
Note: You can change this password
after you have logged into your Blackboard course. Click on "Student Tools >
Personal Information" > "Change Password".
Once you log in, you will arrive at your "Welcome Your First Name" page.
If you forward your Ship email to another account via Info.Ship site, you are still responsible for making sure you are receiving emails from your professor.
Click on "Personal Information". Click "Change Password". Enter a unique password that you will remember in the Password and Verify Password fields. Click Submit at the bottom. Click OK.
It's always good practice to write your new password down in a safe place in case you forget it.
That's it! You are now ready to proceed in your course!
